I’m Back!

I spent the past year as a House Director/Mom at a large sorority house on the campus of UC Berkeley (better known as Cal) where I oversaw the daily lives of a group of 19 to 22-year-old young women, managed a staff of cleaners, maintenance people, cooks, and kept a huge old house built in the 1920’s from falling down.

I loved the girls. I loved what living on a big, liberal campus offered in the way of continuing education for seniors, and best of all, I loved the easy access to my 2nd favorite city in the entire US, San Francisco! (Chicago, you are still my favorite!)

I used my Clipper Card to go everywhere – bus, BART, Caltrain, and ferry! You cannot beat a city with great public transportation! One of the best things was it allowed me to attend the monthly meetings of Menlo Mornings, a fantastic group of couture sewists, who recharged my love of sewing and textiles. Thanks you ladies!

But good things do come to an end. The election results were the impetus for me to realize there was still a whole, big world out there with lots of places I haven’t seen yet. But before I tell you where I am going, I will to have to catch you up on where I have been….and still need to blog about.

The first place, which will take much time to write and be filled with LOTS of photos was my trip to Japan in March.

Then, when I left Berkeley in mid-December, I hopped on the Coral Princess in LA for a cruise through the Panama Canal.

We docked in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and I spent 2 weeks with my dear friends in Dunedin, visiting the neighboring pink elephants, and getting my paperwork all in order for my big move back across the pond.

Today I am starting to once again write about my life on the roam from the same little fishing village in the Algarve region of the southern coast of Portugal.

This is my 4th, or it could be my 5th time back in Ferragudo. I am in the same little house I have always rented and where my friend Joyce and I lived for months during the outset of Covid. It feels like coming home and the only hardship was staying awake until 3:45 a.m. this morning to watch the Chefs-Bills playoff game. The 5-hour time difference is a bitch! So if there are type-os in this blog, blame my lack of sleep!

I hope you will join me during my journey over the next four years – or as long as this old body stays standing. We will explore new places and revisit old ones together. You can always drop me a note, ask me questions, and even stop in for a visit if you happen to be in the neighborhood!

Until next time…..

  1. Buenos dias,. We met a few years ago in LA Manzanilla at Muy Rico. I am happy you are back traveling. I really enjoy your adventures. We have a condo in Barra de Navidad where we spend our winters now, but still visit the magical Pueblo of LA Manz often. Thanks for your blogs

Feel free to elaborate more with words and pictures of your adventures now and going forward. We’re all holding down the fort as best we can during this tumultuous time in our lives. We will endure and look forward to you coming back home 🙂

  3. So glad you are back at it! We love Portugal and have visited a number of times, staying as long as we can. We love the people! Have often thought of moving there, but always get stymied by the health insurance question for longer stays……and did you get visas to stay longer than 3 months??

    Thanks so much,

    1. Hi! I am meeting with an immigration attorney on Friday to discuss residency. Otherwise, I plan to hop from place-to-place, banck and both in and out of the Schengen per the 3-month rule for the next 4 years!
